An anonymous tipster tells Mads:
Two security vans and a police car have been outside the dorm for the last hour. We're pretty sure this has to do with the intense amount of damage found this morning in the basement: a busted pool table, a shattered vending machine (the target of which appears to have been hot pockets), and unspecified damage-probably to the ice machine or a water pipe- which caused a temporary flood of about half a foot of water in the laundry room. There was also some sporadic damage throughout the dorm (a bit of shattered glass, a few holes in the wall) and a lot of vomit in the hallway on the second floor, which may or may not be related.
Oh, Lathrop...

I live on the second floor and my room was invaded, a hole punched in the wall, alcohol everywhere, property damage. I was gone the whole night while this happened. Ugh. Lathrop is not the place to live. Police, security and I had a nice chat. The police were also checking out the broken vending machine.
why the vending machine?? i'm really hungry and don't want to walk to the dc.
Anonymous 4:22... I know it's inconvinient, but I think there's more to worry about than the vending machine in this case. Like the idea that someone's room was entered without his/her knowledge and completely totalled: that's pretty concerning, no?
hey, lathrop is not all bad. we just have a few obnoxious residents who like to make things difficult for the rest of us. thanks guys...
Oh yeah, I'll bet it was a resident who trashed their own dorm....
brilliant deduction
no, we're pretty sure it was a resident or residents...the security/ po-po squad wasn't checking out the basement damage, they were going to around to rooms.
6:29, you never know. People get so drunk and so high, who knows what they'd do.
noooo i want my vending machine snax, crap
I did it
7:17, i hope you're indicating that a mixture of thc and alcohol, and not weed all on its lonesome, is often at the root of belligerency. i'm all for freedom of speech, but when people in my dorm start badmouthing my friend "Herb", there are going to be consequences. Serious consequences. Like, uhm, I might play Sigur Ros really loudly at 3 in the morning and play mandolin along with it. Yeah!
I heard that somebody's computer was thrown out the window, too. Yikes.
to last commenter-
absolutely. i mean, i know that the last thing i'd want to do when blazed is punch shit...
got a roommate yet?
Haven't heard anything about a computer being thrown out a window, but I do know of a mattress, pillows, and several textbooks getting that treatment. I have to say, this vandalizing was definitely not the sort of behavior I was expecting to find at Vassar...
Do I dare suggest that perhaps this isn't the right circumstance to be silly saying "Oh, Lathrop..."? Extensive damage to public property, hazards to health of residents, general destructive mayhem for now reason? Is this the alcohol or is this a general problem with the way some people think about what constitutes 'being cool'?
Oh, and let's think about the way that if you do something GOOD while you're drunk you take credit for it, but if it's something BAD then you blame the alcohol. Smart, kids, very smart. Perhaps you'll even get alcohol poisoning and have to go to the hospital!! Oh joy!!! Or maybe you'll do something really violent while drunk (or sober) and get arrested! Yippeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!
Joking.
Think about it.
i think that the last 2 commentors should considering toning down their preaching considering this is probably the work of less than half a dozen people in a dorm where over a hundred live.
that said, i will put this out there: man made alcohol. God/Science/Nature made weed. who do YOU trust?
and in the immortal words of The Mad Real World.. "I think we needa have a house meetin yall"
archel iz meen :-(
I saw some girls carrying a matress into Latrop at like, 2-2 30ish Sunday morning!
i hope whoever did it will come forward so all of lathrop doesnt have to pay for the damage.
I posted the 10:50 pm comment and would just like to clarify to 11:35 pm and others who happen to read my comment...
I most certainly don't think that Lathrop is "overrun" with people who would do to the dorm what happened there last night and completely agree that the things done in the dorm were probably enacted by no more than a dozen individuals. I would even say that it is entirely possible (if not probable) that most of the people involved don't even live in Lathrop. The point that I was making was not that the people living in Lathrop were involved or should be held accountable for what happened, but rather that it's unsettling to me that there are a handful of people out there in our community (small though it may be) that think it's perfectly all right to destroy both private and public property.
im always telling my roommate to lock our door when she leaves the room and i dont even live in lathrop. but although i do feel for the people who were the victims of the vandalism, and i dont think anyone deserves that, i think something we have to take from this incident is that some people need to start locking their doors. you wouldnt think this would be necessary at a school like vassar, but the best thing we can do right now is learn from what happened.
these kids from the soccer team are bonafide snitches. snitches get stitches.
