New Princeton Review Ranks Vassar

The 2009 edition of The Princeton Review's Best Colleges came out today. Overall we've moved up in all categories...which could be a good or bad thing. Here's how Vassar did:

Least Religious Schools - #9 (#12 in 2008)
More to Do on Campus - #13 (#15)
Town-Gown Relations are Strained - #12 (#14)
Best College Theater - #8 (#10)
Birkenstock-Wearing, Tree-Hugging, Clove-Smoking Vegetarians - #9 (#15)

We no longer made the categories for Most Beautiful Campus (last year #13), Students Most Nostalgic for Bill Clinton (#16), and Reefer Madness (#19).

Vassar received an academic rating of 96 and an admissions rating of 97.

Of course, can we really trust these "ratings?" Wesleyan, for example, got #14 on Town-Gown Relations. Really? Plus, Cappy says ratings don't really mean anything anyway.

Update: Some of the new rankings can be viewed here.

Sad. Although the fact that we're no longer on the Reefer Madness list makes me doubt the legitimacy of this ranking system an eensy bit.

Poor Bill Clinton. Should have known he would be the first to go with all this Obama fever.

I miss being a beautiful campus.

yes, our campus is so ugly now that it's not listed on the princeton review, thanks princeton for showing me the light. /sarcasm

i agree with cappy. this is hardly legit anyway because it just polls the students, and they will inevitably have a biased view of certain aspects of campus or not know about some things they're asked about.

and rankings are extra useless because not every person is right for every college. so does it matter if NYU has better theater? not to me. i would've hated NYU. college should be about the student's happiness, not superficial ratings.

9:06, Amen.
But, you know you, I mean me at least, realize all this once you're already in college. A case of too little too late.

also, on an slightly unrelated topic, i think that the criteria for "best college theatre" is how well-attended/ popular the shows are, not the quality of the theatre or the dept.

yeah, i really don't understand how we're not on the reefer madness list.

Ew. We have a GORGEOUS campus.
And also.. we are super reefer-madness.

So basically I agree with everyone who commented ^

i don't think so 10:41. i realized the kind of school i wanted to go to WAY before my applications were due. certainly saved me a lot of money in application fees. it helped that i knew what i wanted to major in, but i could gone to a place that was extremely different from vassar for that major. i just knew i wanted to be somewhere small. rating had very little to do with it.

Vassar is georgeous, that is why you visit the school. I do have asthma and am bit of a natural health nut, so any image of reefer madness or smoking would have probably turned me off.

Vassar is definitely the most beautiful college on the planet.

i am going to do my part in seeing we get back on that reefer madness list.
