When prospective students pass Main dorm during tours of Vassar, they are usually told a story about how Jane Fonda attended afternoon tea wearing nothing but white gloves and pearls.Well, according to a Vassar tour guide, an alumna on a tour today told the guide that this story is completely false.
"I went here when Jane Fonda did," the alumna said, adding that the story is "apocryphal."
Oh well, we still believe it!

Yeah, it's just a legend. Tea in the Rose Parlor didn't even start until the mid-70s.
She was WORKIN' that hair!
Klute, baby.
i think they should still tell the story
weird, were the fuck did that story come from then?
apocryphal. good word.
that's so sad!
i choose to believe it anyway.
GTFO
Then we need a new Vassar legend. If all the good ones are fake, let's do it right. So someone actually show up to tea in pearls and gloves. Or someone turn a hall in Main into a slip-in-slide, release all the test animals in Blodgett or Olmstead, or make a huge outdoor art project (paint Noyes Circle, etc..). Make history!! Do something radical!!
i would have hated to have been that tour guide
Her hair is soooo hipster

Jane Fonda Rides Motorcycle Through Main Building
Rumor has it that when Jane Fonda was a student at Vassar, she arrived to tea one day improperly dressed. She was sent to her room and told to come back wearing the requisite gloves and pearls. When Ms. Fonda reappeared, she was wearing only the aforementioned gloves and pearls. Other versions of the tale include Ms. Fonda riding a motorcycle through the halls of Main Building in this outfit as revenge. Alas, this story has no basis in reality.
You know what else is false? The story the tour guides tell about how Vassar changed the school colors from pink and gray to "burgundy and pewter" because the men's rugby team wouldn't wear "little pink shorts." That's total BS.
Maybe the story somehow got mixed up with this one that Jane herself tells on her blog about a friend at Vassar:
"The actor and filmmaker and friend of both mine and Catherine, Rosanna Arquette, is coming to be in it and my fiend Cristina Biaggi, who was at Vassar College when I was and got kicked out for howling naked at the moon is also coming and being a consultant..."
